Louise Mae Blanton Hicks

July 4, 1920 – January 15, 2018

Louise Mae Blanton Hicks, 97, joined her “Honey”, Julian at the gates heaven on January 15, 2018.  Mrs. Louise was born in Richmond, Virginia on July 4, 1920 to Hervey Lewis, SR., and Carrie Lee Shackelford Blanton.

Mrs. Louise grew up in Church Hill in Richmond, VA and was a graduate of John Marshall High School in 1938.  It wasn’t long before her heart was stolen by Julian A. Hicks and married on April 8, 1939.  She was a member of Branch Memorial Methodist Church until relocating from Richmond to Greensboro, NC in 1954. In 1982, Louise and husband Julian returned to their beloved Richmond, VA to live in James River Estates in Goochland County until her final move to Georgia in 2000.  Mrs. Louise soon became an active member of the Tucker First United Methodist Church in Tucker, GA, where she proudly held the position of telephone chairman for her Women’s Circle for fourteen years.

Mrs. Hicks was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Julian A. Hicks, and her infant sister, Frances Lee Blanton, brother and his wife, Hervey Lewis Blanton, Jr.(Anne) and nephew,  Hervey Lewis Blanton, III.  She is survived by her son and his wife, Wayne Blanton Hicks (Joy); four grandchildren, Traci Moore(Jack), Tamara Hicks, Michele Cerrito (Mel) and Shon Brown; and, two great-grandchildren, Julia Anne Hicks and Shelby Lyn Moore; and, nephews, Charles Lewis, Blanton(Alice), Brian Hicks(Belinda); and, nieces, Sherrin Lee Sledd(William), Judy Hicks Courtney and Barbara Jean Hicks as well as additional great nieces and nephews and beloved friends.

Mrs. Hicks will be sorely missed by her family along with some of her favorite responses, “G-Buck!, Oh Honey!, Delish! and Okie Dokie!.”

Our family will be forever indebted to a special friendship and weekly visitor, Mary Frances Oliver, for her patient and loving bond that evolved during “Mother Hicks” residence at Greenwood Place Assisted Living in Wrightsville, GA.

We also sincerely thank Greenwood Place Assisted Living and their staff for their compassionate care and Serenity Care Hospice for their gentle care and dignified services.

Visitation will take place Sunday, January 21, 2018 from 2 – 4 p.m., at Bliley Funeral Home, 8510 Staples Mill Road, Richmond, VA.  A Graveside Service will be held Monday, January 22, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Oakwood Cemetery, Richmond, VA.  In Lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made to the United Methodist Women of Tucker First United Methodist Church, Tucker, GA.
