WRIGHTSVILLE, GA

Alvie Jewell Parker, 90, of Wrightsville entered into eternal rest Wednesday night, August 30, 2017 at her residence after an extended illness. Mrs. Parker was born October 16, 1926 in Sandersville, GA to the late Willie Ollie and Olga Dent Raines. Mrs. Parker graduated from Balls Ferry School in 1943. Mrs. Parker was employed with the City of Wrightsville as the city clerk on February 1, 1969 and retired December 31, 2001. As a past time after her retirement, she worked with her sister at Nana’s Kitchen. She made everybody feel right at home with her southern humor. Mrs. Parker was a member of the Pilot Club and The Woodmen of the World. She was an outstanding citizen of Wrightsville and Johnson County. She volunteered to participate  in many events. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church  and attended the United Methodist Women and Women in Christ groups.

Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by her husband, Vickers Palmer Parker; one sister, Lotus Wilson; and three brothers, Ralph Raines, James Raines, and Dent Raines.

Funeral services will be held at the Wrightsville First United Methodist Church, Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. Mrs. Parker will lie in state one hour before her service. Rev. Kurt Hagen will be the officiating minister. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery.

Mrs. Parker is survived by two sons, Ollie “Bobo” (Donna) Parker and Billy (Janet) Parker both of Wrightsville; one sister, Joy Hortman of Wrightsville; six grandchildren, Cory (Rachel) Parker, Victoria (Casey) Crabb of Wrightsville, Joseph (Lacey) Parker of Wrightsville, Cale (Hope) Parker of Dublin, Tyler Parker of Wrightsville, and Elizabeth (Edward) Sheppard of Tennille; four great grandchildren, Bodie Parker of Wrightsville, Reagan Parker of Wrightsville, Henry Sheppard of Tennille, and Connor Adams of Wrightsville; her caregiver, Rita Williams of Wrightsville and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Wrightsville First United Methodist Church, Friday night, September 1, 2017 from 6 to 8 P.M.

Active pallbearers to serve at Mrs. Parker’s service will be Cory Parker, Joseph Parker, Cale Parker, Tyler Parker, Casey Crabb, John Raines, Joe Raines, and Scottie Raines. Honor Escort will include her Sunday School Class,The Wrightsville Police Department, and The Wrightsville Fire Department.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be given to the Methodist Children’s Home at 304 Pierce Ave., Macon, GA 31204 or The American Cancer Society at 804 Cherry Street, Suite A, Macon, Ga. 31201.
