Brent William Hlavaty

Brent William Hlavaty, 58, of Augusta, GA, passed away with family by his side, September 25, 2017 at University Hospital after illness. Mr. Hlavaty was born in Lincoln, NE, February 19, 1959, to Edward John and Lucille Mae Beranek Hlavaty. He had lived in the Augusta area for 24 years. He was employed in Media Marketing.

Mr. Hlavaty completed his Bachelor Degree in Journalism, from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. He majored in Broadcasting and minored in Psychology, English and Meteorology. He graduated Alpha Epsilon Rho / National Honorary Broadcasting Society.

He began his career while still a student in college as the overnight announcer on the top local radio station and later during college did the weekend weather on KOLN/KGIN-TV. His successful career opportunities continued in radio and television including Nebraska, Illinois, Iowa, Texas, Alabama and Georgia markets.

Mr. Hlavaty was a longtime businessman and local media leader. His work included WAGT-TV NBC as Executive, WBBQ-FM Radio as General Sales Manager, WRDW-TV CBS as Executive. Brent was instrumental in launching WBAU Channel 23, Augusta’s WB Network affiliate in 2003. There he served as President and General Manager. In 2006, the WB network merged with the UPN TV Network to form the CW Network. Brent then took his special style to Schurz Communications as Station Manager of the CW Augusta. He became very well-known in the local business community for having great ideas and developing excellent promotions to help grow local businesses. Few media executives are as loved by the advertising community as much as Brent.

When Schurz Communications sold the CW Augusta, Brent took on a leadership role with the Fox 54 WFXG-TV sales department in April of 2016. He made an immediate positive impact. He played a key role in WFXG’s successful launch of the morning news program. He was a valued team member of Fox 54 WFXG-TV in Augusta owned by Raycom Media, Inc.

Brent was known for his love of family and friends, cooking, and sports. He provided an active and supportive role in all these areas.

Mr. Hlavaty was preceded in death by his father, Edward Hlavaty.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Christ The King Lutheran Church at 4232 Evans To Locks Road in Evans, GA, on Wednesday, October 11,2017 at 7:00 P.M. Pastor David Keener will be the officiating minister.

Mr. Hlavaty is survived by his mother, Lucille Hlavaty; his wife, Jody Hlavaty; one son, Jarrett Hlavaty; one daughter, Jessica Hlavaty; three brothers, Todd Hlavaty, Ross Hlavaty, and Clinton Hlavaty; one sister, Janelle Hlavaty Stallings.
